Day 3 Zabaldika to Puente La Reina

Day 3 of my Camino journey was eventful as always. Today's stretch from Zabaldika to Puente la Reina covered 20 miles, adding up to a total of 60 miles so far. Upon reaching my next destination, I couldn't help but chuckle at the sight of fellow pilgrims limping around—we're all feeling the mileage!

I've acquired a couple of blisters along the way, but they're nothing too troublesome at the moment. Before setting off, I did my best to lighten my load, but now I wish I had been even more thorough. It seems my pack is quite hefty compared to others I've seen on the trail.

I've been making good progress and find myself a day or two ahead of most pilgrims. This leaves me contemplating whether to book accommodations in advance or take my chances upon arrival.

Despite the challenges, my spirits remain high. I continue to embrace the joys that the Camino offers. Each step brings new encounters and breathtaking views that make this adventure truly magical.

Buen Camino!

Burguete to Zabaldika

Covered over 20 miles today on my way to Santiago de Compostela. Feet are a bit sore, but I'm hanging in there.

The trail has been amazing! Passed by quite a few Spanish villages and enjoyed the peaceful countryside. And guess what? There are way fewer people now compared to when I started. It's nice to have some breathing space and a more personal experience. Starting out, I had previously booked my first 2 accommodations. Tonight I was fortunate to easily secure a space without a reservation. My hostel is more or less a church with beds. They serve you dinner, breakfast, and only have a donation jar for whatever you wish to give. This is something you can find quite regularly along the way. As it is quite busy, I’m afraid I may find myself stuck sleeping under the stars on a night to come. My sleep sack is very thin and I’m wondering if I should’ve brought a tent. About an hour following my arrival, I felt bad seeing people show up hoping for a bed and melting down because they were full. I will say, I wouldn’t have been excited walking an extra 4-5 miles looking in the next village. Everything so far has been comfortable, clean, with great facilities. I’ll just keep hoping for the best.

The locals I've met have been incredibly friendly and welcoming. Loving the vibes here!

Here is my 3rd night’s accommodations

Saint Jean to Burguete

After sleeping in till nearly 8am, I realized I was probably the last person to hit the trail for my first section.  It hiked almost 18 miles to my booked accommodations.  I’m incredibly thankful that I did book this as it’s crazy how many people are here.  I’ve been told that past the first few sections, it calms down a bit but people seem very anxious about finding their next evenings accommodation.  I don’t have anything booked further, but from what I’ve read, this is the way to go.  Although I got a late start, I had to have passed at least 6-700 people.  I also found out that todays hike is supposed to be the most challenging of the entire Camino.  It’s been a great adventure and I’m looking forward to what’s to come.

Saint Jean Pied de Port

After 3 plane rides, a 2 hour shuttle, and not sleeping for 36 hours now, I am finally here at the beginning of the Camino De Santiago.  I’m really hoping for a good nights sleep for my 18 mile walk tomorrow.  My initial observation of this journey so far is, I’m surprised on the average age of the people I’m crossing paths with. I’d put that number in the 60’s at this point.

Time Marches On- Walking the El Camino

It's been almost a decade since my last post, and time has flown by so quickly. It's a reminder of how fleeting our youth can be.

I'm excited to share with you that I'm embarking on a journey to walk along the El Camino in Spain. It's an opportunity for me to disconnect from the distractions of the world and reconnect with myself.

It's been a while since I've slowed things down and taken the time to reflect on what's truly important in life. With this journey, I hope to gain some clarity and shift my perspective. I want to focus on the things that truly matter, like love, friendship, and happiness.

As I prepare for this journey, I'm reminded of how vital it is to step back from the chaos of our lives and reflect. It's easy to get caught up in the daily grind, but we must cherish the moments that matter the most.

I'm thrilled to share my experiences with you and hope that my journey will inspire you to reflect on your own life and focus on what's truly important.
